How long can lychee be stored

Litchi can usually be stored at room temperature for 1-2 days, refrigerated for 3-5 days, and frozen for about a month. The actual storage time is affected by factors such as maturity, storage temperature, humidity, skin integrity, and ventilation conditions. Litchi is a perishable fruit with strong respiration after harvesting, and its skin is prone to browning and dehydration in high temperature environments. If the skin of the unsheathed lychee is not damaged, it can be stored briefly in a cool and ventilated place, but it needs to be refrigerated as soon as possible during high temperatures in summer. Wrap the stem of the fruit with a damp tissue before refrigeration, and place it in a fresh-keeping bag with holes for ventilation, which can slow down moisture loss. If the fruit shell turns black or the flesh changes taste, it should be discarded immediately. In special circumstances, the storage time of lychee may be shortened. For example, peeled lychees are prone to spoilage within 4 hours at room temperature due to the loss of skin protection; If the storage environment humidity is too high, mold growth can cause the fruit pulp to rot. Litchi transported over long distances may be pre cooled with ice water, but when stored at home, avoid direct contact with ice to prevent frostbite.

It is recommended to choose lychee fruits with branches, leaves, and bright red shells when purchasing, and there is no need to clean them before refrigeration. A small amount of frozen packaging can preserve the taste, and it is suitable for making desserts or juices after thawing. Daily consumption should pay attention to controlling the amount and avoid eating in large quantities on an empty stomach, which can cause hypoglycemia. Regularly check the condition of the fruit during storage, and promptly separate and handle moldy fruits.
