How long can I keep jackfruit when it's ripe

Mature jackfruit can be stored for 1-2 days at room temperature and 3-5 days in cold storage. The actual storage time is affected by factors such as storage temperature, fruit integrity, maturity, humidity, and ventilation conditions.

If the skin of jackfruit is intact and undamaged after ripening, it can be stored for 1-2 days in a ventilated place at room temperature. High temperature will accelerate the fermentation and deterioration. At this point, the sweetness of the fruit flesh reaches its peak, but it should be consumed as soon as possible to avoid overcooking and producing a wine flavor. The sliced fruit pulp should be wrapped in cling film and refrigerated. It is prone to oxidation and blackening when exposed to air. Refrigerated storage can delay spoilage, and it is recommended to consume it within 3 days. If black spots or exudation are found on the skin and the flesh emits a sour and rotten taste, it indicates that it has deteriorated and is not suitable for consumption. The intact jackfruit that has not been cut is wrapped with newspaper and put into the refrigerator vegetable and fruit room. Low temperature can inhibit the enzyme activity and extend the fresh-keeping period to about 5 days. Freezing storage can alter the texture of the fruit pulp, making it suitable for making desserts. It can be stored for up to a month but has a soft and rotten taste.

When storing jackfruit, avoid putting it together with apples, bananas and other fruits with high ethylene release, which will accelerate the decay. Suggest processing in batches according to the consumption plan, cutting and consuming as soon as possible to preserve the best flavor. If long-term storage is required, the fruit pulp can be packaged and frozen for making milkshakes or jams, but it should not be consumed fresh after thawing.
