Eight Major Hazards Caused by Obesity

With the gradual improvement of living standards, there are more and more obese people around us. Although obesity cannot bring us fatal harm, it can lead to some health problems. Obesity is the root cause of many diseases and an important reason for accelerating aging. When some symptoms of obesity appear, it is necessary to control weight in a timely manner to avoid more serious impacts on physical health.

1. Causes of dyslipidemia

Obese individuals, especially those with abdominal obesity, are more likely to exhibit hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, abnormal elevation of low-density lipoprotein and very low-density lipoprotein, while high-density lipoprotein is actually reduced compared to the general population. The reasons why obese individuals are prone to hyperlipidemia are currently not very clear. Possible reasons include: first, consuming too much fat; second, storing too much fat in the body; third, hyperinsulinemia can increase blood lipids; fourth, there are problems with clearing blood lipids.

2. Increased cerebrovascular disease

Obese people are prone to hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes, while obese people with hypertension, dyslipidemia and diabetes are more prone to brain problems. Such people are prone to cerebral atherosclerosis. Their cerebral blood vessels are hard and brittle, which are prone to rupture under the effect of hypertension, causing dangerous cerebral hemorrhage, and even endangering life. Obese individuals also have higher levels of tissue fibrinolysis activating inhibitory factors in their blood compared to the general population. These factors make it difficult for blood clots to dissolve once they are formed, making obese individuals more susceptible to cerebral thrombosis, also known as stroke.

3. Increased risk of hypertension

Obesity is closely related to hypertension. The incidence of hypertension is 50% higher in obese individuals aged 40-50 than in non obese individuals. A moderately obese person is more than five times more likely to develop hypertension than a person of normal weight and more than twice as likely as a mildly obese person.

4. Increasing cardiac load

It has been found that the incidence of angina and sudden death in obese individuals increases fourfold. This indicates that obesity will definitely increase the burden on the heart and cause damage to the heart. The normal human heart is like a water pump, constantly contracting and relaxing to maintain the circulation of blood. Obese individuals, due to the excessive storage of fat in their blood, experience a significant increase in total blood volume, which in turn increases the strength of their heart contractions. When the heart is overwhelmed, it can no longer pump blood effectively, resulting in a state of blood accumulation in the cardiovascular system, and in severe cases, even obvious heart failure. About half of obese individuals suffer from fatty liver. The liver is a site for synthesizing triglycerides, but there is not much extra space inside the liver to store it. The balance between triglyceride synthesis and transport in obese individuals is disrupted, resulting in higher intake of fatty acids and higher synthesis of triglycerides by the liver. A large amount of triglycerides accumulate in the liver. As a result, fatty liver was formed.

6. Increased risk of diabetes

Obesity is one of the important risk factors for diabetes. Among type 2 diabetes patients, 80% are obese. Moreover, the longer obesity occurs, the greater the risk of diabetes.

7. Osteoarthritis

Obesity may cause three kinds of osteoarthropathy: osteoarthritis, diabetes osteoarthropathy and gout osteoarthropathy. Among them, osteoarthritis is the most common and harmful. Osteoarthritis caused by obesity mainly affects the knee joint, followed by the hip joint and finger joint.

8. Obese people are prone to cancer

According to the results of epidemiological survey, obese women are more likely to suffer from endometrial cancer and postmenopausal breast cancer, while obese men are more likely to suffer from prostate cancer; And as long as they are obese, both men and women are more likely to suffer from colon and rectal cancer.
