Apples that are too young can be cooked, and proper storage can promote later ripening. It usually takes 2-5 days to reach the desired maturity. Avoid direct sunlight or store in sealed plastic bags, as the former can cause moisture loss and the latter may lead to mold growth. If apples are harvested too early and cause ripening disorders, they may not be fully ripened through conventional methods. Even if the skin of these apples turns yellow, the flesh will still become hard and sour. You can try slicing and baking or stewing, as high temperatures can break down some pectin and starch, improving the taste. It should be noted that raw apples with mechanical damage or mold spots on the surface should not be stored for ripening, as they have a higher probability of spoilage.

When purchasing apples in daily life, gently press around the stem to achieve a slightly soft and fragrant maturity. After storage, ripe apples need to be checked for condition every day and promptly refrigerated for storage. Apples are rich in dietary fiber and antioxidants, with slight differences in nutritional content depending on maturity. Hard apples are more suitable for people who need to control blood sugar, while soft ripe apples are easier to digest and suitable for making puree.
