Can seaweed be exposed to the sun if left for too long

Seaweed can be sun dried for a long time, but attention should be paid to controlling the drying time and environmental conditions. Seaweed may become moldy or lose nutrients when exposed to moisture. Moderate drying can help remove moisture and extend storage time. Seaweed is a type of algae food that is rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, but is susceptible to environmental influences. If seaweed is damp due to improper storage, it can be spread flat in a clean container and placed in a ventilated and cool place for a short period of time to dry, avoiding direct sunlight that can cause chlorophyll decomposition or texture brittleness. It is recommended to air dry in the early morning or evening during the high temperature period in summer, with each time not exceeding 2 hours, and repeatedly flipping to ensure even drying. After sun exposure, it should be sealed and stored in a dark container to prevent secondary moisture absorption. If the seaweed has obvious mold spots, peculiar smell or sticky feeling, it indicates severe deterioration, and drying cannot restore its quality. It is recommended to discard it. Some seaweed packaging comes with a desiccant, so there is no need to air dry it separately before opening. Long term storage of dried seaweed will naturally lighten in color, which is a normal phenomenon, but if it turns red or black, it may breed harmful substances.

It is recommended to divide seaweed into small portions for daily storage, seal them in aluminum foil bags or glass jars, and refrigerate. Before consumption, it can be baked at low temperature or microwave heated to restore its crispy texture, avoiding high temperature exposure that can damage the nutritional components. Paired with protein rich foods such as tofu and eggs, it can increase the absorption rate of minerals in seaweed.
