Can I still eat tofu if it tastes good

It is usually not recommended to continue eating tofu after it has gone bad. Tofu spoilage may produce harmful substances, which may cause gastrointestinal discomfort after consumption. Tofu is prone to microbial contamination during storage, especially for tender tofu with high moisture content. When tofu becomes sour, sticky, or darker in color, it indicates that the protein has begun to break down and may breed a large number of bacteria. This type of spoiled tofu not only significantly reduces its nutritional value, but may also contain pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella or Staphylococcus aureus, which may cause food poisoning symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea after consumption.

It is normal for some fermented bean products, such as Stinky tofu and Fermented bean curd, to have special smell. After special process treatment, the smell of these products comes from beneficial bacteria fermentation. However, if ordinary tofu has a strange odor after being stored under refrigeration for more than 3 days, or if it has a sour and rotten taste after being stored for more than half a day without refrigeration, it is considered abnormal spoilage. For vacuum packaged tofu, if the packaging is found to be swollen or the liquid is turbid, it should also be discarded.

When purchasing tofu on a daily basis, it is recommended to choose regular supermarket refrigerated products and consume them as soon as possible after opening. Tofu that is temporarily not eaten can be soaked in boiled and cooled diluted salt water and stored refrigerated, but should not exceed 2 days. If you experience persistent symptoms such as vomiting and fever after ingesting spoiled tofu, seek medical attention promptly. Pay attention to the texture and odor changes of tofu in daily life, and stop consuming it if it becomes slightly sour to avoid losing too much and affecting health.
