Can grapes be frozen and stored

Grapes can be frozen for preservation, but after thawing, their texture will become soft and their juice will be lost, making them more suitable for making fruit juice or desserts. Fresh grapes are recommended to be refrigerated for optimal flavor preservation. After freezing, the cell structure of grapes will be disrupted by ice crystals, resulting in loose flesh texture. Before freezing, it is necessary to wash and dry the fruit, remove the stem, and lay it flat in a sealed bag to remove air. It can be stored for about 3 months. The varieties suitable for freezing include seedless red extract, summer black and other types with thicker skin. After thawing, they can be directly mashed into fruit paste for making smoothies, jams or baking fillings. Frozen grapes can prolong storage time but may lose some vitamin C and anthocyanins, resulting in slightly lower nutritional value compared to fresh consumption. If short-term storage is required, wrapping unwashed grapes in a fresh-keeping bag and refrigerating them can last for 1-2 weeks. Low temperature can slow down the rate of sugar conversion. The natural fruit powder on the surface of fresh grapes with frost has a protective effect, and cleaning will accelerate spoilage. It is recommended to rinse before consumption.

Grapes should be stored in a breathable food box and padded with kitchen paper to absorb moisture during daily storage, avoiding dampness and squeezing. Frozen grapes are suitable for infants as complementary food materials or electrolyte supplement after exercise, but diabetes patients need to control their intake. Grapes with moldy spots or wine flavor are not edible. It is recommended to consume them as soon as possible after purchase to ensure nutrition and flavor.
