Can cracked eggs be heated in the microwave

It is generally not recommended to heat cracked eggs in a microwave oven. Microwave heating may cause a sudden increase in internal pressure of eggs, leading to bursting and posing a safety hazard. If heating is required, it is recommended to use boiling or steaming separately. When microwave oven heats cracked eggs, the expansion rate of the egg liquid is much faster than that of the shell, and the internal steam cannot be released in time, which is prone to bursting. Bursting not only stains the inner wall of the microwave oven, but the splashing high-temperature egg mixture may also burn the skin or eyes. Raw eggs contain pathogenic microorganisms such as Salmonella, and uneven microwave heating may result in some areas not reaching the sterilization temperature, posing a food safety risk.

In special circumstances where rapid heating of cracked eggs is required, the egg mixture can be poured into a microwave specific container, covered with high-temperature resistant plastic wrap and punctured with small holes. After heating at low to medium power for 30 seconds, stir and check the condition. However, this method may still result in uneven heating due to improper operation. It is recommended to prioritize traditional heating methods to ensure safety.

It is recommended to plan the amount of eggs consumed in advance in daily diet. Shell eggs that are cooked and stored in refrigeration can be eaten cold or briefly warmed up at room temperature. If reheating is necessary, it is relatively safe to use a low-power microwave oven to heat boiled eggs that have been shelled and cut into pieces for about 10 seconds. Eggs are rich in high-quality protein and lecithin, and proper cooking can maximize the retention of nutrients, avoiding nutrient loss or safety hazards caused by improper handling.
