Starting winter moxibustion can choose acupoints such as Guanyuan, Zusanli, Shenshu, Dazhui, Yongquan, etc., which can help warm yang, dispel cold, and enhance immunity.
1. Guanyuan acupoint
Guanyuan acupoint is located three inches below the navel, where the body's vital energy gathers. Moxibustion at Guanyuan point during the beginning of winter can warm and replenish the lower yang qi, improve symptoms such as cold hands and feet, and chills, especially suitable for middle-aged and elderly people and those with weak and cold constitution. It is advisable to use local warmth during moxibustion to avoid burning the skin.
2. Zusanli acupoint
Zusanli acupoint is located three inches below the depression on the outer side of the knee and belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. Moxibustion at this acupoint during the beginning of winter can invigorate the spleen and stomach, nourish the middle and nourish qi, and alleviate loss of appetite caused by weakened gastrointestinal function. Winter moxibustion should pay attention to keeping warm indoors and avoiding catching a cold. Before and after moxibustion, you can drink warm ginger and red date tea, and avoid eating raw, cold, greasy food. The duration of each moxibustion session should be controlled at 15-20 minutes, and for those with sensitive skin, it can be shortened to 10 minutes. If you experience discomfort such as dizziness or palpitations, stop immediately. It is not advisable to take a shower within 2 hours after moxibustion.
