When is the best time to drink Wuhong Tang

Wuhong Tang is suitable for drinking on an empty stomach in the morning or during afternoon tea time, as it helps absorb nutrients and relieve fatigue. Wuhong Tang is mainly made by boiling red dates, red beans, red skinned peanuts, goji berries, and brown sugar. It has the effects of nourishing blood, skin, spleen, and qi. The selection of drinking time mainly considers factors such as fasting absorption effect, avoiding conflicts with medication, postprandial blood glucose control, adaptability to special populations, and seasonal adjustment.

1. Fasting absorption effect

In the morning, gastrointestinal peristalsis is faster on an empty stomach, and the iron element and plant-based protein in Wuhong Tang are more easily absorbed. The organic acids in red dates and red skinned peanuts can promote gastric acid secretion and help improve anemia symptoms. It is recommended to drink a small amount of warm water to clean the digestive tract before drinking, and the temperature should be controlled at around 40 degrees Celsius.

2. Avoid medication conflicts

During the period of taking iron containing preparations or anticoagulant drugs, there should be an interval of at least two hours between Wu Hong Tang and the medication. Brown sugar may affect the hypoglycemic effect, and diabetes patients need to monitor postprandial blood glucose. Long term users of traditional Chinese medicine are advised to consult a physician to avoid interactions between goji berries and certain medicinal herbs.

III. postprandial blood glucose control

Drinking around 3pm can relieve fatigue and is less likely to cause severe blood sugar fluctuations. The amount of added brown sugar should be controlled within 10 grams, and obese individuals can use sugar substitutes instead. Eating with a small amount of nuts can delay sugar absorption and avoid postprandial drowsiness.

4. Adaptation for special populations

Menstrual women are recommended to drink continuously for one week after the end of their menstrual period, and those with heavy menstrual flow should use it with caution during menstruation. Patients in the postoperative recovery period can drink in small amounts, not exceeding 200 milliliters each time. Children should dilute and reduce the amount of brown sugar consumed to avoid affecting their normal appetite.

Fifth, Seasonal Adjustment

In winter, it is recommended to drink it while it is hot to warm up and drive away the cold. In summer, it is recommended to refrigerate it as a cooling drink. Drinking goji berries continuously for two weeks during the transition between spring and autumn can enhance immunity, but those with yin deficiency and excessive fire should reduce their consumption in summer. In humid environments during the rainy season, a small amount of ginger can be added and boiled together to dispel dampness.

As a traditional dietary therapy, Wuhong Tang should be consumed 3-4 times a week according to one's physical condition, which is recommended for healthy individuals. When boiling, it is recommended to use a clay pot to simmer over low heat for at least 1 hour to fully release the nutrients of the ingredients. Symptoms of bloating or excessive internal heat after drinking should be temporarily suspended. For those with yin deficiency constitution, brown sugar can be removed and honey can be used for seasoning. Combining moderate aerobic exercise can promote the circulation of qi and blood, and avoid drinking strong tea or coffee at the same time that may affect iron absorption. When storing, it must be refrigerated and consumed within 24 hours. Heating again may damage some of the active ingredients.
