What methods can be used to remove peanut white bugs

Peanuts and small white worms can be removed through methods such as air drying, freezing, sealed storage, pepper deworming, and high-temperature baking. Most of the small white insects are Indian corn borer larvae, which need to be treated in a timely manner to avoid residual insect eggs.

1. Drying

Lay the peanuts flat in the sun for several hours, and ultraviolet light can kill some of the eggs and larvae. When drying, it is necessary to frequently flip it to ensure even heating, and after processing, sieve out dead insects and insect infested particles. This method is suitable for areas with low humidity and should be used with caution during the rainy season.

2. Freezing

Put peanuts into sealed bags and place them in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator for 48 hours of low-temperature treatment. The sub zero environment can effectively kill insecticides. After freezing, it is necessary to check for ice crystal condensation to prevent peanuts from getting damp and deteriorating. This method has a significant effect on killing insect eggs and does not affect the taste.

3. Sealed storage

Use a vacuum container or double-layer fresh-keeping bag to isolate the air for storage, and add food grade desiccants to reduce humidity. Insects will gradually die in hypoxic environments, and this method is suitable for long-term storage of small amounts of peanuts, requiring regular inspection of container sealing.

4. Sichuan pepper deworming

Place Sichuan pepper bags wrapped in gauze in storage containers, and volatile substances can repel adult insects from laying eggs. Mix 15 grams of Sichuan peppercorns with every kilogram of peanuts, and replace them once a month. This method belongs to physical deworming and is suitable for preventing the recurrence of pests. Other methods should be combined with other treatments for already infested peanuts.

5. High temperature baking

Bake peanuts at 150 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes. High temperature can completely eliminate insecticides. After baking, it needs to be cooled and sealed to avoid moisture regain. Pay attention to controlling the temperature to prevent burning. Peanuts treated with this method are suitable for short-term consumption, and long-term storage should be combined with moisture-proof measures.

It is recommended to choose a cool and dry environment for daily storage of peanuts, and use glass or ceramic containers with sealing strips. Regularly inspect the inventory of peanuts for signs of insect infestation, and promptly pick out and dispose of small amounts of pests. Avoid mixing old and new peanuts. After purchasing new peanuts, they can be frozen before being stored. If the pest infestation is severe or moldy particles are found, it is recommended to discard the entire batch and no longer consume it. After dealing with insect infested peanuts, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the storage container to prevent cross infection with other ingredients.
