It is recommended to choose materials such as wool, modal, acrylic, cotton, spandex for thermal underwear. Different materials have their own characteristics in terms of warmth, breathability, comfort, etc., and should be selected according to individual needs and wearing scenarios.
1. Wool
Wool has a natural curly structure that can lock in air to form a thermal insulation layer, providing excellent warmth retention. It has strong moisture absorption and sweat wicking properties, which can keep the skin dry and suitable for cold and humid environments. However, some sensitive skin may cause itching sensation to wool fibers, and it is necessary to choose finely processed high count wool or blended materials.
2. Modal
Modal fibers are derived from natural beech wood pulp, with a soft and smooth feel like real silk, and better breathability than cotton. Its fiber cross-section is circular, which can quickly guide moisture and is not easily deformed, making it suitable as a close fitting layer for thermal underwear. Blended with spandex provides better elasticity, but pure modal material has relatively weaker warmth retention.
3. Acrylic
Acrylic is known as synthetic wool, with fluffiness and warmth similar to natural wool, and is lighter in weight. The fiber has high strength and is not prone to pilling, with outstanding characteristics of washing and wear resistance. However, it has poor moisture absorption and significant static electricity, making it suitable for use in dry and cold regions or as an intermediate insulation layer.
4. Cotton
Pure cotton material has the best skin affinity and is suitable for people who are allergic to chemical fibers. It has excellent moisture absorption but slow moisture removal, and after sweating, it is easy to retain moisture, causing the body to feel cold. It is recommended to choose styles made of combed cotton or blended with polyester to enhance warmth while reducing shrinkage and deformation.
5. Spandex
Spandex is usually blended with other fibers to significantly improve the elasticity and fit of clothing. Thermal underwear containing spandex is not easy to restrain during activities, especially suitable for sports scenes. But pure spandex has no insulation function and needs to be combined with materials such as wool and acrylic to achieve insulation effect. When choosing thermal underwear, it is necessary to consider the environmental temperature, activity intensity, and skin sensitivity comprehensively. It is recommended to use a three-layer dressing method in cold regions, with modal or combed cotton for the inner layer to ensure comfort, wool or acrylic for the middle layer to enhance warmth, and windproof fabric for the outer layer. You can choose single-layer styles of cotton ammonia blend or wool blend for daily wear, and pay attention to the weight and fiber content labels of the clothing. Avoid high temperature drying during washing, and use neutral detergent to lay flat and dry wool materials to maintain fiber elasticity.
