Fan shaped strawberries are usually caused by factors such as uneven pollination, abnormal temperature, water imbalance, nutritional imbalance, or pests and diseases. If strawberries exhibit abnormal morphology during their growth process, it is often related to cultivation management or environmental factors, and targeted adjustments to planting conditions are needed.
1. Uneven pollination
If strawberry flowers are not fully pollinated, it can lead to uneven fruit development. insufficient pollinating insects such as bees and continuous rainy weather during the flowering period may affect pollination efficiency. Artificial pollination or adding beehives can improve such problems and ensure even fruit enlargement.
2. Abnormal temperature
Exposure to low or severe temperature differences during the flowering or young fruit stage can inhibit normal cell division and lead to fruit deformities. When the nighttime temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius or the temperature difference between day and night exceeds 15 degrees Celsius, fan-shaped fruits are prone to occur. Greenhouse cultivation requires attention to insulation and ventilation, while open field cultivation can be covered with plastic film to regulate soil temperature.
3. Water imbalance
Sudden dryness and wetness of soil can cause inconsistent growth rates of fruit pulp. Suddenly pouring a large amount of water after drought can cause some fruit pulp cells to quickly absorb water and expand, while other parts grow slowly. Maintaining soil moisture stable at 60% -70% can be effectively prevented by using drip irrigation systems.
4. Nutritional imbalance
Calcium deficiency directly affects cell wall formation, while boron deficiency hinders sugar transport. Both deficiencies may lead to fruit deformation. Applying mature organic fertilizer before flowering and supplementing calcium boron micro fertilizer on the leaves during fruit enlargement can promote normal fruit morphology and development.
5. Diseases and pests
When thrips bite young fruits, they leave scars that hinder local growth, and gray mold infection may cause one side of the fruit to shrink. Regular spraying of biopesticides to prevent pest infestations, timely removal of diseased fruits, and improvement of ventilation conditions can reduce the incidence of malformed fruits.
To prevent fan-shaped strawberries, it is necessary to comprehensively manage the planting environment and select anti deformity varieties such as Hongyan and Zhangji. During the fruit development period, maintain a temperature difference of 8-10 degrees Celsius between day and night, and spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution on the leaves every 7-10 days. Control the amount of nitrogen fertilizer before harvesting and increase the application of potassium fertilizer to improve fruit hardness. Abnormal fruits should be promptly removed to avoid nutrient waste and retain more nutrients for normal fruit growth.
