What fruits are suitable for storage

The fruits suitable for long-term storage mainly include apples, pears, citrus fruits, pomegranates, pomelos, etc. These fruits have the characteristics of thick skin, moderate moisture content, and storage resistance, and can be stored for a long time under suitable conditions.

1. Apples

Apples are typical storage resistant fruits, and their skin contains a natural wax layer that can reduce water loss. Late maturing varieties such as Red Fuji and Gala can be stored for several months under refrigeration conditions of 0-4 ℃. Pay attention to removing damaged fruits during storage to avoid accelerated ripening due to ethylene release. Apples can provide rich dietary fiber and antioxidants, but their high sugar content requires controlled intake.

2. Pear

Korla fragrant pear, snowflake pear and other varieties have dense flesh that is resistant to storage and transportation. Immature pears can be stored in cold storage at 0-5 ℃ for 2-3 months, during which they will continue to ripen and become soft. Pears containing sorbitol may cause diarrhea in individuals with gastrointestinal sensitivity. It is recommended to remove the skin and consume to reduce fruit wax residue.

3. Citrus

Citrus fruits such as navel oranges and honey pomelos have thick outer skins and contain antibacterial essential oils. It can be stored in a ventilated and cool place for 1-2 months, and refrigerated for up to 3 months. The content of vitamin C in citrus fruits decreases with storage time, and mold spots on the skin should be removed immediately to avoid contaminating other fruits.

4. Pomegranate

The hard outer shell of pomegranate can effectively protect the internal grains, and intact and undamaged fruits can be stored for about one month at room temperature. Wrapping with plastic wrap during refrigeration can prevent moisture evaporation, and storing for too long can cause the seeds to dry up and discolor. Pomegranate seeds containing tannic acid may affect iron absorption, and anemic individuals should consume them at intervals.

5. Pomelo

Varieties such as Shatian pomelo and honey pomelo have thick sponge layers on their skin, which can be stored for 2-3 months in a cool environment at 10-15 ℃. Avoid mechanical damage caused by stacking during storage, and slight wrinkling of the skin does not affect the quality of the fruit pulp. Yuzu interacts with some antihypertensive drugs, and it is necessary to consult a physician during medication.

Fruits should be stored in a dry and clean environment, and regularly inspected to remove rotten fruits. Different varieties should be stored separately to avoid cross flavors, and tropical fruits should not be refrigerated. Thoroughly clean and remove surface pesticide residues before consumption. For those with weak gastrointestinal function, heating methods such as steaming and boiling can be chosen. Reasonable combination of multiple fruits can obtain more comprehensive vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. It is recommended to consume 200-350 grams of fresh fruits daily.
