During the rainy season, damp rooms can be solved by ventilation and dehumidification, using dehumidifiers, placing moisture absorbing materials, preventing moisture in electrical appliances, and preventing mold on walls.
1. Ventilation and dehumidification
Choose to open windows for ventilation during periods of low humidity, such as in the afternoon or on clear days, to promote air circulation and remove moisture. Avoid opening windows during high humidity periods in the morning and evening to prevent outdoor moisture from entering. Convective ventilation has a better effect, as it can simultaneously open windows on both sides of the room to create ventilation. The ventilation time should be controlled between half an hour and one hour, as excessive ventilation may cause a sudden drop in indoor temperature.
2. Use a dehumidifier
The dehumidifier reduces air humidity through the principle of condensation, making it suitable for rapid dehumidification in enclosed spaces. Choose a model with a daily dehumidification capacity that matches the room area. For a 10 square meter space, it is recommended to choose a 12 liter/day specification. Close doors and windows when in use, and set the humidity within the range of 50% -60%. Regularly clean the water tank and filter to avoid secondary pollution. When the dehumidifier is working, it should be kept at least 30 centimeters away from the wall to ensure heat dissipation.
3. Place moisture absorbing materials
Place activated carbon, quicklime, or silica gel desiccants in enclosed spaces such as wardrobes and drawers. Lime will heat up and expand after absorbing moisture, so it should be stored in a breathable container to avoid contact with clothing. 500g of activated carbon can cover 3 square meters of space and can be reused after 4 hours of exposure to sunlight per month. Silicone desiccant can be regenerated by microwave heating after changing color, making it suitable for moisture-proof electronic products.
4. Electrical moisture-proof
Electrical appliances such as televisions and computers should run for at least 1 hour a day to use heat to drive moisture. When not in use for a long time, a dust cover should be placed and a desiccant should be put in. The power plug should be unplugged. When the air conditioner is turned on in dehumidification mode, it can be set to 24-26 degrees, which can both cool down and dehumidify. Wipe off water stains promptly after using kitchen appliances, and store the inner pot of the rice cooker upside down.
5. Anti mold on walls
Wet walls can be wiped with bleach at a ratio of 1:99 to remove mold spots. Severe areas need to be removed and repainted with anti mold paint. Keep the walls dry in daily life, and leave a 5cm gap between furniture and walls to promote air circulation. When condensation occurs, wipe it with a dry cloth in a timely manner, and moisture-proof pads can be attached to the corners of the wall. It is recommended to use breathable materials such as moisture-proof putty and diatomaceous earth for newly renovated houses.
During the rainy season, special attention should be paid to moisture-proof bedding and clothing. On sunny days, bedding should be dried in a timely manner. Chemical fiber clothing can be treated with a dryer, and pure cotton fabrics should be hung at a distance. Daily use of hot water to mop the floor can accelerate water evaporation, and the mop should be wrung dry to avoid water accumulation. Moderately increase the intake of moisture promoting ingredients such as Job's tears and adzuki beans in diet, and avoid excessive cold drinks that can worsen dampness in the body. When a large area of mold is found on the wall or electrical appliances are affected by moisture and short circuited, professional personnel should be contacted in a timely manner for handling.
