Reasons why yellow wine and beer cannot be consumed together

Huangjiu and beer are usually not recommended to be consumed together, mainly due to differences in their composition and metabolic burden. Huangjiu belongs to fermented liquor, while beer belongs to brewed liquor. Mixing them may increase liver burden, accelerate alcohol absorption, induce gastrointestinal discomfort, affect flavor experience, and increase the risk of drunkenness. The alcohol content of Huangjiu is generally around 15 degrees, which is rich in amino acids and carbohydrates; Beer has a low alcohol content but contains carbon dioxide and histamine. After mixing the two, the carbon dioxide in beer accelerates the gastrointestinal absorption of alcohol in Huangjiu, leading to a rapid increase in blood alcohol concentration. The higher alcohols in Huangjiu may have a synergistic effect with histamine in beer, making it more likely to cause discomfort such as headaches and nausea. The brewing process of different alcoholic beverages results in significant differences in impurity components. The fusel oil produced during the fermentation process of Huangjiu needs to be broken down by specific enzymes in the liver, while purine substances in beer may interfere with metabolic processes. This dual metabolic pressure may increase the detoxification burden on the liver, and long-term mixed consumption may have potential effects on liver function. The gastrointestinal mucosa is susceptible to congestion and edema when stimulated by high concentrations of alcohol and carbon dioxide.

Alcohol consumption should be controlled in total and mixed drinks should be avoided, especially when fasting. It is recommended to choose a single alcoholic beverage and pair it with moderate food, with a minimum interval of 2 hours between drinks. Patients with abnormal liver function or gastrointestinal diseases should strictly avoid alcohol mixing, and the general population should also pay attention to observing their physical reactions after drinking. If discomfort occurs, stop drinking and replenish fluids in a timely manner.
