Lipoma can be eliminated by weight loss

Lipomas generally cannot be eliminated through weight loss. Lipoma is a benign tumor composed of mature adipocytes, and its formation is not directly related to obesity. Weight loss usually cannot cause the already formed lipoma to regress. The growth of lipomas is mainly related to genetic factors, abnormal local fat metabolism, or changes in hormone levels. Although weight loss may reduce the probability of developing new lipomas, its impact on the volume of existing lipomas is limited. Clinical observations have found that some patients may have relatively obvious lipomas after weight loss, which is due to a decrease in surrounding adipose tissue. The growth rate of lipomas is usually slow, with a diameter mostly between 1-3 centimeters, and a soft texture with good mobility upon palpation. In rare cases, when a lipoma occurs in a special anatomical location such as the neck or around a joint, a significant decrease in body fat percentage may cause slight changes in tumor volume, but this situation is not universal. It should be noted that if the lipoma rapidly enlarges, causes pain, or becomes hard in the short term, it may be related to malignant lesions such as liposarcoma, and weight loss measures cannot produce therapeutic effects at this time.

It is recommended to regularly observe changes in lipomas and avoid repeated rubbing and stimulation. If it affects the appearance or function, surgical resection treatment may be considered. Maintaining a balanced diet and regular exercise on a daily basis can help maintain normal metabolic status, but there is no need to deliberately lose weight to eliminate lipomas. When abnormal enlargement of the body surface mass is found, it should be promptly treated with a general surgery or dermatology department, and the nature should be clarified through ultrasound examination.
