How to wash baseball jerseys so they won't deform

When cleaning baseball jerseys, it is necessary to avoid deformation by hand washing or gentle machine washing, with a focus on protecting easily deformed areas such as collars and cuffs. The main cleaning methods for baseball jerseys include cold water hand washing, using neutral detergent, avoiding strong rubbing, laying flat to dry, and reducing machine washing frequency.

1. Hand washing in cold water

Baseball jersey fabrics often contain cotton or blended materials, and hand washing in cold water can effectively prevent fiber shrinkage and deformation. Keep the water temperature below 30 degrees, gently press the clothes to allow the detergent to penetrate, and pay special attention to avoiding excessive pulling at seams such as collars and cuffs. The soaking time should not exceed 15 minutes, and immediately rinse with clean water after washing.

2. Neutral detergent

Choose a specialized laundry detergent with a neutral pH value to avoid alkaline detergents damaging the fiber structure of the fabric. When cleaning, dissolve the detergent in water first and then put it into the clothes. Directly applying the detergent may cause local fading. For stubborn stains, you can first use a soft bristled brush to gently brush and avoid using chlorine bleach.

3. Avoid strong rubbing

The seams and printed areas of baseball jerseys are relatively fragile, and should be cleaned without strong rubbing or twisting. You can turn the inside of the clothing inside out, focusing on cleaning easily dirty areas such as armpits and collars, and gently tapping other areas. Special care should be taken when embroidering or hot stamping logos, as excessive friction can cause the decoration to fall off.

4. Flatten and air dry

After cleaning, do not hang and air dry as the weight of moisture can cause shoulder deformation. Clothes should be laid flat on a drying net or a clean towel, and after organizing the original pattern, they should be naturally dried in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading, and if necessary, use a white towel to cover and protect the printed area. Before completely drying, it can be stretched appropriately to restore its original size.

5. Reduce the frequency of machine washing

The strong rotation of machine washing can easily cause the shape of baseball jerseys to deform. It is recommended to machine wash no more than once a month. When machine washing is necessary, it should be placed in a laundry bag and the gentle mode should be selected. The dehydration time should be controlled within 1 minute. It is recommended to hand wash all three times before purchasing a new baseball jersey to stabilize the fabric fibers before considering occasional machine washing.

When wearing baseball jerseys in daily life, attention should be paid to avoiding contact with oil stains. You can temporarily take them off or use an apron when eating. When storing, it is recommended to use a wide shoulder hanger for support. Before long-term storage, it should be cleaned and moisture-proof agent should be placed. If the clothing is partially deformed, a steam iron can be used for low-temperature finishing, but it needs to be kept 3 centimeters away from the fabric. Regularly inspect the thread ends at the seams, and promptly repair any loose threads to prevent deformation and expansion. Baseball jerseys made of different materials require differentiated care, and leather trim styles require the use of specialized cleaning agents.
