The black scale on the surface of a clay pot after burning can be removed by soaking it in baking soda, boiling it in white vinegar, rubbing it with salt, and other methods. During processing, it is necessary to avoid using hard objects such as steel wire balls to scrape and prevent damage to the glaze of the clay pot.
1. Soak in baking soda
Fill the burnt clay pot with warm water, add an appropriate amount of baking soda to dissolve completely, and let it stand for several hours. Baking soda's weak alkalinity can soften coking substances, and after soaking, wiping with a soft cloth can remove most of the black deposits. This method is suitable for lightly burnt and glazed clay pots, and can be repeated for stubborn stains.
2. Boil white vinegar
Pour a mixture of white vinegar and water into a clay pot, with a ratio of about 1:3, heat to boiling, then turn off the heat and cool down. Acetic acid can react with metal oxides to decompose iron oxide formed by burning iron in a pot. After cooling, gently scrape the burnt layer with a wooden spatula, taking care to avoid high temperature vinegar vapor from irritating the respiratory tract.
3. Salt Friction
After the clay pot has completely cooled down, sprinkle coarse salt on the charred area and use a soft bristled brush or sponge dipped in water to rub in circles. The physical friction of salt particles can remove surface carbides without scratching the glaze surface. After processing, a small amount of tea oil can be applied to maintain the pot body and enhance the anti sticking effect.
4. Tea boiling
Boil expired tea leaves or tea bags with water. Tannic acid in tea helps to decompose organic coking compounds. After boiling, let it stand for 2 hours. The antioxidant properties of tea polyphenols help loosen the char layer, especially suitable for removing black scale formed by burning food proteins. This method has a more significant effect on ceramic clay pots.
5. Potato Peel Cleaning
Put the potato peel and water into a clay pot and boil it. The amylase and oxalic acid in the potato peel can soften the carbonized layer. Boil for 10 minutes, then turn off the heat. When the water temperature drops to a point where it can come into contact, rub the charred area with the inside of the potato peel. The natural cleaning method has no risk of chemical pollution and is suitable for handling sand pots for baby tableware.
It is recommended to control the heating on low to medium heat when using a clay pot in daily life to avoid empty burning or sudden cooling. Before using the new clay pot for the first time, it can be boiled with rice soup to form a protective film. When cooking sticky food, use bamboo grates to prevent sticking. Long term unused clay pots should be stored dry, and the glaze should be regularly maintained with edible oil. If the burnt enamel is severely damaged, with water leakage or obvious cracks, it needs to be replaced to avoid the risk of heavy metal precipitation.
