How to remedy moldy food after eating it

If there are no obvious symptoms after ingesting moldy food, drinking more water can promote metabolism. If symptoms of poisoning such as vomiting and diarrhea occur, seek medical attention immediately. Moldy food may contain harmful substances such as aflatoxins, which can cause gastrointestinal irritation, liver damage, and neurotoxicity.

If you accidentally consume a small amount of moldy food without experiencing discomfort, you can accelerate metabolism by drinking warm water or diluted salt water, and consume moderate amounts of oats, apples, and other foods rich in dietary fiber to help absorb toxins. Observe whether nausea, abdominal pain, and other reactions occur within 24 hours, and maintain a light diet during this period to avoid exacerbating gastrointestinal burden. If symptoms such as persistent vomiting, watery stools, or fever occur, be alert to fungal toxin poisoning and immediately bring remaining moldy food samples to seek medical attention. Medical interventions may include gastric lavage to remove gastric residues, intravenous injection of glucose saline to maintain electrolyte balance, and the use of liver protective drugs such as glutathione in severe liver injury. Children, pregnant women, and chronic disease patients who accidentally consume moldy food are recommended to seek medical evaluation even if there are no symptoms.

Daily food storage should pay attention to dryness and ventilation. Grains and nuts should be sealed and refrigerated after opening, and inventory food should be regularly checked for mold. Before cooking, carefully check the appearance and odor of the ingredients. Vegetables and fruits with slight mold spots should be cut off from the surrounding areas that have not changed color by more than 3 centimeters. If there is local mold on bread, dairy products, etc., the entire portion should be discarded. It is recommended to keep emergency adsorbents such as activated carbon at home, but they cannot replace professional medical treatment.
