How to lose weight due to heavy dampness in the body

When there is heavy dampness in the body, weight loss can be achieved through adjusting diet, increasing exercise, traditional Chinese medicine regulation, medication assistance, and improving lifestyle habits. Heavy dampness may be caused by improper diet, humid environment, weak spleen and stomach, endocrine disorders, metabolic disorders, and other reasons.

1. Dietary regulation

People with high humidity should reduce their intake of high sugar, high-fat, and raw/cold foods to avoid exacerbating the burden on the spleen and stomach. It is suggested to eat more dampness promoting and spleen strengthening foods, such as job's tears, red beans, yams, etc., which can be cooked with Congee or soup. Winter melon, cucumber and other melon vegetables also help with diuresis and dampness elimination. Diet should be timed and quantified to avoid overeating. The main cooking method is steaming, boiling, and stewing.

2. Increase Exercise

Moderate exercise can promote metabolism and help eliminate excess water from the body. It is recommended to choose aerobic exercises such as swimming, jogging, and brisk walking, and to adhere to them 3-5 times a week for 30-60 minutes each time. Yoga, Tai Chi, and exercise can also improve Qi and blood circulation. After exercise, sweat should be wiped dry in a timely manner to avoid getting cold and aggravating moisture.

3. Traditional Chinese Medicine conditioning

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that excessive moisture is related to spleen deficiency and can be regulated by acupuncture and moxibustion, cupping, moxibustion and other therapies. Acupuncture and moxibustion can select Zusanli, Yinlingquan and other acupoints to strengthen the spleen and remove dampness. Cupping can promote local blood circulation, while moxibustion can warm the meridians and dispel coldness. It is recommended to undergo 10-15 sessions of treatment under the guidance of a professional traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.

4. Medication assisted

The traditional Chinese patent medicines and simple preparations of invigorating the spleen and removing dampness can be used under the guidance of doctors, such as Shenling Baizhu Pill, Jianpi Pill, Xiangsha Liujun Pill, Ermiao Pill, Pingwei Powder, etc. These drugs contain ingredients such as ginseng, atractylodes macrocephala, and Poria cocos, which can help regulate spleen and stomach function. Self medication is not recommended, follow medical advice.

5. Improve living habits

Keep the living environment dry and ventilated, and avoid sitting for long periods of time. During summer, the air conditioning temperature should be controlled to avoid excessively low temperatures. Soak your feet in hot water for 15-20 minutes every night, adding mugwort leaves or ginger. Ensure adequate sleep and avoid staying up late. Quit smoking and limit alcohol consumption to reduce liver burden. People with high levels of dampness in their bodies should pay attention to gradual weight loss and avoid excessive dieting or vigorous exercise. It is recommended to drink an appropriate amount of warm water every day to help eliminate metabolic waste. Maintaining a relaxed mood helps with the circulation of qi and blood. If there is no long-term weight loss or obvious discomfort, timely medical examination should be sought to check for endocrine or other organic problems. Massage the abdomen appropriately in daily life to promote gastrointestinal peristalsis in a clockwise direction.
