How to freeze and store bananas

Bananas can be frozen for storage, but they need to be peeled, cut into pieces, and sealed. Frozen bananas are suitable for making milkshakes or baking, but they become soft after thawing and are not suitable for direct consumption.

Before freezing bananas, the skin should be completely removed and cut into uniform blocks or slices to reduce ice crystal formation. Lay a single layer flat on a tray covered with baking paper and pre freeze for 2 hours, then transfer to a sealed bag and release air for refrigeration. It is normal for banana fruit pulp to turn brown during the freezing process, and adding a small amount of lemon juice can delay oxidation. The frozen banana has less vitamin B6 and potassium loss, but its texture will become soft and porous, suitable for mixing into an ice cream substitute or adding oatmeal Congee. Immature green bananas are difficult to soften after freezing, and mature bananas with a small amount of black spots on the skin should be selected for processing. Poor sealing can cause frostbite and dehydration. It is recommended to use vacuum sealed bags or double-layer plastic wrap for wrapping. Frozen bananas can be stored for 2-3 months at minus 18 degrees Celsius. When thawing, they need to be placed in a refrigerator and slowly warmed up. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can accelerate nutrient loss. It is recommended to pack and store according to the amount used each time. Frozen bananas can be paired with yogurt to make low-fat desserts, or used as a natural food to replenish electrolytes after exercise. Attention should be paid to the high sugar content of frozen bananas. diabetes patients should control their intake. The storage container should be labeled with a date to avoid expiration, and the thawed bananas must be consumed within 24 hours. If mold or odor is found, it should be discarded immediately. For those with gastrointestinal sensitivity, it is recommended to try a small amount to confirm tolerance.
