How to clean strawberries cleaner

When cleaning strawberries, it is recommended to first rinse the surface dust with running water, then soak in light salt water or baking soda water for 5 minutes, and finally rinse with purified water. Strawberry skin is fragile and easily damaged, so it is necessary to avoid rubbing or soaking for a long time during the cleaning process.

1. Rinse with flowing water

Place strawberries under flowing water and rinse for more than 30 seconds. The water pressure helps to wash away dust, insect eggs, and some pesticide residues attached to the surface. When rinsing, keep the strawberry stem facing upwards to prevent pesticide residues from seeping into the flesh through the stem incision. This step can remove about 70% of surface pollutants and is the basic step of cleaning.

2. Salt water immersion

Prepare 3% concentration of light salt water to soak strawberries for 5 minutes. Salt can promote some insect larvae to detach from the fruit surface and damage the molecular structure of pesticides. After soaking, rinse with running water again to avoid salt residue affecting the taste. For organic strawberry cultivation, this method can replace the use of chemical cleaning agents.

3. Baking soda water treatment

Add 5 grams of edible baking soda per liter of water to make an alkaline solution, soak strawberries for 3 minutes, and gently stir. Baking soda can neutralize acidic pesticides, decompose fat soluble residues, and has a good removal effect on common pyrethroid pesticides. After processing, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse with pure water to avoid residual alkali odor.

4. The rice washing water fermented for 24 hours contains amylase and organic acids. Soaking strawberries for 2 minutes can soften the surface wax layer and enhance the dissolution effect of pollutants. This method is suitable for strawberry varieties with hard skin, but moldy rice washing water may breed bacteria. Before use, it is necessary to confirm that the water quality is clear and odorless.

5. Special cleaning agent

Food grade fruit and vegetable cleaning agent can decompose fat soluble pesticide residues. Dilute according to the instructions and soak for no more than 2 minutes. Choose products with phosphorus free and essence free formula, and rinse with plenty of water after cleaning. This method has a significant effect on strawberries grown in greenhouses, but for sensitive individuals, it is recommended to prioritize the use of physical cleaning methods. Strawberries should be consumed immediately or refrigerated after cleaning to avoid accelerated spoilage caused by residual moisture. When storing, keep the stem and lay it flat in a breathable container. The temperature should be controlled at 0-4 degrees Celsius to keep it fresh for 3 days. The recommended daily intake is within 200 grams, and individuals with abnormal kidney function should limit their consumption of high potassium strawberries. When purchasing, choose fruits with fresh green stems and undamaged skin. Organic certified strawberries have a relatively low risk of pesticide residues. If allergic symptoms such as skin itching or abdominal pain occur after cleaning, stop eating and seek medical attention to investigate the cause.
