How to break the black sugar lumps

Black sugar lumps can be broken up by heating, tapping, microwaving, or sealed storage methods. Agglomeration is usually caused by moisture or improper storage, and attention should be paid to avoiding high temperature damage to nutrients during handling.

1. Heat softening

Put the clumped black sugar into a heat-resistant container, heat it over water or place it in a warm environment. Steam heat can soften sugar cubes, which can be dispersed by gently pressing with a spoon. Avoid direct high-temperature heating to prevent sugar from coking and affecting taste and nutrition.

2. Tap and disperse

Wrap the cling film with a rolling pin and lightly tap the sugar cubes, or put them in a sealed bag and crush them with a hard object. When striking, control the force to avoid splashing sugar particles. After processing, sieving can separate fine sugar powder from residual hard lumps.

3. Microwave breaking

Heat at low heat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds, and the sugar cubes will soften after absorbing moisture. Immediately separate with a fork after heating, and repeat the operation with a 30 second interval to prevent local overheating. The microwave method is suitable for situations where a small amount of brown sugar is urgently needed.

4. Fruit moisturizing

Put apple slices or bread cubes in a sugar jar and seal for 1-2 days. The water released by fruits can slowly penetrate the sugar block, naturally softening and adding fruity aroma. Regular inspections are necessary to prevent fruit mold from contaminating sugar products.

5. Sealed and moisture-proof

treated brown sugar should be stored in a glass sealed jar, with food desiccants or rice added to absorb moisture. Keeping the environmental humidity below 60% can prevent clumping again and avoid direct sunlight that can cause sugar oxidation.

It is recommended to choose a cool and dry environment for daily storage of black sugar, and use it as soon as possible after opening. If stored for a long time, it can be divided into small portions for frozen storage, and the room temperature can be restored before use. When dealing with clumps, physical methods should be prioritized to preserve minerals such as iron and calcium, as well as phenolic substances in black sugar to the maximum extent possible. When paired with ingredients such as ginger and red dates, softened brown sugar is more easily dissolved and the flavor blends evenly. Special groups such as diabetes patients need to control their intake, and those with high blood sugar are recommended to consult a nutritionist for guidance.
