How is konjac tofu considered spoiled

When konjac tofu goes bad, it usually appears sticky, sour, moldy, or darkened in color. Deterioration may be caused by improper storage, expiration of shelf life, microbial contamination, and other factors. As a high moisture food, konjac tofu often begins to spoil from the surface. When touched, there is a noticeable sticky and slippery feeling that is difficult to rinse off, which usually indicates the proliferation of bacteria. If accompanied by a pungent odor or a smell similar to ammonia water, it indicates that the protein has decomposed and produced sulfides. Partially spoiled konjac tofu may exhibit localized blackening or green gray mold spots, especially at the cutting edges or packaging folds, which are more prone to mold growth. If the packaging bag of unopened products expands and bulges, it may be a sign of spoilage caused by anaerobic bacteria producing gas. In rare cases, konjac tofu may undergo hidden spoilage. Some pathogenic bacteria may not significantly change their appearance and odor after contamination, but they may cause gastrointestinal discomfort after consumption. If konjac tofu stored at low temperatures is repeatedly frozen and thawed, its texture will become loose and porous, and cloudy liquid will seep out. When konjac tofu with added pigments deteriorates, uneven color fading may occur. If the sterilization of konjac tofu produced in industry is not thorough, it may exhibit dot like decay within its shelf life.

It is recommended to choose products with intact packaging and uniform texture when purchasing. After opening, they should be refrigerated and consumed within two days. Before cooking, observe for any abnormalities and discard any slight suspicion of spoilage. Daily storage should avoid high temperature and humid environments, and unused konjac tofu should be stored in a clean and sealed container. If you accidentally consume spoiled konjac tofu and experience symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, you should promptly replenish electrolytes and seek medical examination.
