How do you see if the Holy Maiden Fruit ripens

Whether the cherry is ripe can be determined by observing its appearance, texture, aroma, stem condition, and seasonal characteristics. The naturally ripe cherry has uneven color, moderate texture, fruity aroma, fresh and easy to peel stems, and a higher probability of ripening out of season products.

1. Appearance Color

The surface color distribution of naturally ripe cherry is uneven, with a deep red color on the sunny side and a light yellow color on the backlit side, indicating a natural transition color difference. The ripening cherry usually has a bright and uniform color throughout, lacking the natural and mature luster and layering, and some may appear abnormally bright red or orange red.

2. Fruit Texture

Normally ripe fruits have a moderate texture, are elastic when pinched lightly, and have full flesh. The ripening cherry often has a hard texture and poor rebound when pressed, and some may experience local stiffness or separation of the skin and flesh due to the action of the medicine.

3. Odor Identification

Fresh fruit aroma can be smelled near the stem of naturally ripe cherry tomatoes, while ripening products usually have a faint or slightly residual chemical odor. Some products that use ethylene for ripening may have a fermentation odor similar to alcohol.

4. Fruit Stem Condition

Fresh and naturally ripe Holy Maiden fruit stems are bright green and easily fall off naturally. Ripening fruits have dried and blackened fruit stems, and there are often tearing marks at the connection with the fruit due to forced picking. Some may still have white spots.

5. Marketing Season

Natural ripening of cherry tomatoes is mostly concentrated in summer and autumn, and cherry tomatoes that appear in winter or early spring are more likely to ripen. Although the Saint Mary's fruit grown in greenhouses in northern regions may mature naturally, its color and taste are usually weaker than seasonal products.

It is recommended to choose seasonal products and prioritize fruits with fresh stems. Rinse and soak with running water before consumption to reduce possible pesticide residues. The naturally ripe cherry has higher levels of vitamin C and lycopene, while the nutritional value of ripened fruits is relatively low. If abnormal pungent odor or abnormal shiny skin is found in the fruit, it should be avoided from purchase and consumption. Long term consumption of ripening fruits may cause irritation to the gastrointestinal mucosa, and special populations such as pregnant women and children should pay more attention to choosing high-quality natural fruits and vegetables.
