Can patting the stomach help with weight loss

Patting the stomach generally does not achieve the effect of weight loss. Weight loss requires scientific control of calorie intake and coordination with exercise.

Beating the stomach through external stimulation of the abdominal skin and muscles may produce a slight fever sensation, but this is only a temporary increase in local blood circulation and cannot directly decompose or consume subcutaneous fat. The consumption of body fat follows the principle of energy conservation, and only when the daily calorie intake is less than the consumption, the body will mobilize fat for energy supply. Relying solely on tapping cannot significantly increase basal metabolic rate or exercise energy consumption, nor can it accurately reduce abdominal fat accumulation. On the contrary, improper force may cause subcutaneous capillary rupture or abdominal muscle strain.

Some patients may experience increased abdominal circumference due to visceral fat accumulation, and tapping may cause discomfort by shaking the visceral organs. Patients with gastroenteritis, cirrhosis, ascites, or abdominal tumors may face health risks when subjected to external force tapping. There have been clinical reports of cases of mesenteric vascular injury caused by severe abdominal beating.

Scientific weight loss recommendations include dietary management combined with aerobic exercise, such as replacing refined staple foods with coarse grains like oats, and engaging in weekly activities such as brisk walking or swimming. Individuals with a body mass index exceeding 28 or concomitant metabolic disorders should seek guidance from a nutritionist and, if necessary, use legal weight loss medications such as Orlistat capsules under monitoring. It is not recommended to use unverified physical stimulation methods for weight loss.
