Can I wash the eggs I bought and put them in the fridge

After buying eggs, it is generally not recommended to clean them before putting them in the refrigerator. Cleaning may damage the natural protective layer on the surface of eggshells, increasing the risk of bacterial invasion. If there is obvious dirt on the eggshell, it can be gently wiped with a dry soft cloth and refrigerated.

Eggs have a natural keratin membrane on their surface, which can effectively block bacteria from entering the interior through the eggshell pores. The cleaning process can easily damage this protective film, and residual moisture may also accelerate bacterial growth on the surface of the eggshell. The boxed eggs sold in supermarkets are usually professionally cleaned and UV sterilized, and do not require secondary cleaning. If loose eggs are contaminated with feces or soil, they can be wiped with a slightly damp cloth to avoid direct rinsing with water.

In special circumstances where cleaning is necessary, rinse quickly with warm water, wipe dry immediately, and consume as soon as possible. The shelf life of cleaned eggs will be significantly shortened, and it is recommended to use them within 3-5 days. When storing, place the egg tip downwards to help keep the yolk in the center position. The temperature in the refrigerator compartment should be kept below 4 ℃ to avoid direct contact with other fresh foods.

Daily storage of eggs should pay attention to keeping the eggshells dry and intact, and store them in the refrigerator compartment instead of the door to reduce temperature fluctuations. When purchasing, choose eggs with clean surfaces and no cracks, and prioritize products with standardized packaging and labeled production dates. If the eggshell is damaged or the contents have an odor, it should be discarded immediately to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort caused by consuming spoiled eggs. Reasonably stored eggs can maintain their nutritional value and food safety within their shelf life.
