If the dumpling skin turns white and there is no mold or odor, it is generally edible. The whitening of dumpling skin may be a normal phenomenon caused by flour oxidation, water evaporation, or improper storage, but the risk of mold growth should be ruled out. During storage, dumpling wrappers may experience surface whitening due to moisture loss or low temperature environments, which is a physical change and does not affect safety. Starch in flour will crystallize in a dry environment, forming a white powdery substance, especially common in frozen dumplings. If there is no sticky feeling, no black green mold spots, and no odor after cooking, it can be consumed normally. It is recommended to seal and refrigerate the dumplings and consume them as soon as possible to avoid repeated thawing and accelerated water loss. If the whitening is accompanied by an acidic odor, furry plaque, or slippery skin, it may indicate mold growth. Moldy dumplings can produce harmful substances such as aflatoxins, which cannot be completely destroyed by high-temperature cooking. Ingesting them may cause gastrointestinal discomfort such as abdominal pain and vomiting. Especially for people with lower immunity, the risk is greater. When abnormalities are found, the entire batch should be discarded to avoid removing moldy parts before continuing to consume. Daily storage should be sealed and moisture-proof, refrigerated for no more than 3 days, and frozen for no more than 1 month.

It is recommended to observe the color uniformity when purchasing freshly made dumpling wrappers. For homemade dumplings, a small amount of egg mixture can be added to enhance their extensibility. Use plastic wrap to isolate the air during storage, and sprinkle dry flour before freezing to prevent adhesion. Before consumption, check the texture and odor. If there is slight whitening, boil water thoroughly. If any abnormalities occur, stop consumption immediately. Reasonably controlling the amount of each production and ensuring the freshness of ingredients is the key to preventing problems.
