Can cupping help with weight loss

Cupping cannot directly aid in weight loss, but it may assist in weight loss by improving local circulation. Cupping is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that mainly stimulates meridians and acupoints through negative pressure, which may have a certain regulatory effect on metabolism. The negative pressure generated by cupping can promote subcutaneous capillary dilation, accelerate local blood circulation, and theoretically help decompose some adipose tissue. This method may cause local skin redness and fever, resulting in a temporary reduction of edema, but its effectiveness is limited in terms of long-term weight loss. After cupping, some people may experience slight weight loss, mainly related to water excretion rather than fat loss. Some studies have shown that cupping may regulate endocrine functions related to obesity, such as improving insulin resistance. But this regulation requires continuous treatment and the effect varies from person to person. Relying solely on cupping without controlling diet and exercise is difficult to achieve significant weight loss effects. Excessive cupping may also cause skin damage or bruising, and should be performed every 3-5 days. Maintaining a balanced diet and regular exercise remains the foundation of scientific weight loss. It is recommended to use cupping as an auxiliary method in conjunction with other weight loss methods, no more than twice a week, and choose a reputable medical institution for operation. People with skin diseases, blood diseases, or physical weakness should not undergo cupping, and pregnant women are absolutely prohibited from cupping to lose weight. If discomfort symptoms such as dizziness and nausea occur, stop immediately and seek medical attention.
