Can coconut water be used for intravenous infusion

Coconut water cannot be directly used for intravenous infusion. Infusion requires strictly sterile and accurately composed medical solutions, and coconut water without professional treatment poses risks of infection and electrolyte imbalance. Although coconut water contains electrolytes such as potassium and sodium, the concentration of its components differs significantly from that of human plasma. The osmotic pressure and pH value of natural coconut water are unstable, which may cause hemolysis reactions or acid-base balance disorders. Commercial coconut water often contains additives and sugar, and intravenous infusion can cause blood sugar fluctuations or allergic reactions. The compound electrolyte injection used in clinical practice needs to undergo sterilization, ion concentration calibration, and pharmacological testing, and coconut water cannot meet these medical standards. In extreme emergency situations, there have been cases where a small amount of filtered coconut water was used instead of intravenous fluid replacement, but it requires a professional medical team to carry out sterilization treatment and ingredient adjustment. Untrained ordinary people are prone to sepsis or thrombosis during operation. The World Health Organization explicitly prohibits the direct use of any natural liquid for intravenous injection, and regular medical institutions use infusion preparations that comply with pharmacopoeia standards. When dehydration or electrolyte imbalance occurs, oral rehydration salts or seeking medical attention for standardized treatment should be chosen. Coconut water can be consumed in moderation as a daily beverage, but it cannot replace medical infusion. If intravenous fluid replacement is required, sterile injection solution prepared by the hospital must be used, and any self mixing behavior may endanger life.
