Baking soda cleaning method for dirt

Baking soda can be used to clean various types of dirt, mainly through its weak alkaline properties of dissolving oil and neutralizing acidic stains. Common methods include direct powder wiping, soaking in mixed solutions, and mixing with other cleaning agents to enhance the effect.

1. Directly sprinkle powder

Sprinkle baking soda powder directly on the surface of oil stains or stubborn stains, and scrub repeatedly with a damp cloth or sponge. The fine particles of baking soda can remove dirt and decompose oil molecules through physical friction. This method is suitable for hard surfaces such as stove tops, oven walls, and tile gaps, and is particularly effective for organic stains such as coffee stains and tea stains. It is recommended to wear gloves during operation to avoid prolonged skin contact with alkaline substances.

2. Solution soaking

Dissolve baking soda in warm water at a ratio of 1:10 to make a cleaning solution, soak yellowed clothes, oily utensils, or moldy containers. The solution can penetrate fibers and decompose protein stains, and has a significant removal effect on sweat stains, food residues, etc. When dealing with severe dirt, the soaking time can be extended to 2 hours, and metal products should be thoroughly rinsed after soaking to prevent corrosion. This method is particularly suitable for cleaning gaps such as the inner drum of washing machines and the sealing strips of refrigerators.

3. Paste application

Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to form a paste, apply it thickly to areas with scale, rust, or adhesive residue, and let it sit for 15 minutes. Pasty substances can prolong the action time and have a significant effect on inorganic dirt such as calcified deposits on bathroom glass doors and stainless steel water stains. After processing, use a hard bristled brush to remove any residue, and repeat the operation in stubborn areas. Be careful not to use it on surfaces of alkaline sensitive materials such as marble.

4. Steam synergy

Add two spoons of baking soda to the water tank of the steam cleaning machine. High temperature steam carrying alkaline components can deeply clean hard to reach areas such as carpet patterns and sofa gaps. This method can simultaneously kill some microorganisms and is suitable for treating biological pollution such as pet urine stains and mold spots. After use, it is necessary to clean it twice with clean water to prevent powder residue. Fabric furniture should be tested locally first.

5. Mixing Efficiency

Baking soda and white vinegar in a ratio of 3:1 produce a foaming reaction, suitable for unclogging drainage pipes or removing burnt pot bottoms. The synergy between the two can decompose protein, fat, and mineral deposits, but it should be noted that the carbon dioxide gas produced by the reaction may cause an increase in pressure inside the sealed container. After processing, it is recommended to rinse the pipeline with boiling water, and metal utensils should be wiped dry for rust prevention in a timely manner.

It is recommended to choose the appropriate method for daily cleaning based on the type of dirt. Stubborn stains can be combined with multiple methods. Baking soda, as a natural cleaner, is safe for most materials, but long-term use may cause aluminum products to darken. It should be rinsed promptly after cleaning. For valuable furniture or special materials, it is recommended to test them in inconspicuous places first. When storing, it is necessary to keep it dry to prevent clumping from affecting the effect. It is best to use it within six months after opening. Paired with common ingredients such as lemon juice and salt, it can expand more cleaning scenarios, such as removing odors from cutting boards and polishing silverware.
