A good method for children to relieve cough and phlegm

Children can relieve cough and phlegm by drinking warm water, patting the back to expel phlegm, inhaling steam, dietary therapy, and following medical advice. The presence of phlegm in children's cough may be related to respiratory infections, allergies, environmental stimuli, and other factors. intervention measures should be taken based on specific causes.

1. Drink plenty of warm water

Warm water can dilute respiratory mucus and relieve dryness in the throat. The recommended daily water intake for children aged 6 and above is 800-1000 milliliters, which can be consumed in small portions. Avoid stimulating the throat with iced or sugary drinks. If children resist drinking water, a small amount of honey can be added for seasoning, but honey is prohibited for infants under 1 year old.

2. Patting the back to expel phlegm

Gently pat the back with a hollow palm from bottom to top, 5-10 minutes each time, 2 hours before or after meals. When patting the back, make the child lie prone or sideways, with the head slightly below the chest. This method is particularly suitable for infants and young children, as it can promote the loosening and discharge of bronchial secretions. Pay attention to gentle force and avoid hitting the spine area.

3. Steam inhalation

Put hot water in the bathroom to create a steam environment and let children inhale for 10-15 minutes. 1-2 drops of eucalyptus essential oil can be added to help reduce phlegm, but children with asthma should use it with caution. Steam can moisten the airway, relieve spasms, and is suitable for use during severe coughing at night. Full monitoring is required to prevent burns, and the body should be wiped dry promptly after completion.

4. Dietary Therapy

Sichuan Shell Stewed Pear: Take 1 pear, dig out the core, add 3 grams of Sichuan Shell powder, steam for 30 minutes in water, once a day. Mix radish juice and honey in a 1:1 ratio, 10 milliliters each time. These dietary remedies have the effect of moistening the lungs and stopping cough, suitable for children over 3 years old, and should be consumed continuously for no more than 5 days.

5. Follow the doctor's advice for medication.

Ambroxol oral solution is suitable for thick and difficult to cough up sputum, and can promote ciliary movement in the respiratory tract. Xiao'er Feire Kechuan Granules are used for cough and phlegm caused by wind heat invading the lungs. Acetylcysteine granules can decompose sputum mucin. All medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor to avoid self adjustment of dosage.

Maintain indoor humidity at 50% -60% and ventilate twice a day. Avoid contact with irritants such as smoke and dust. Observe changes in sputum color. If yellow green purulent sputum, persistent fever, or shortness of breath appear, seek medical attention promptly. During coughing, the diet should be light, and some lung moistening foods such as Broth of white fungus and lily Congee can be eaten. Ensure adequate rest and avoid aggravating cough symptoms with vigorous exercise.
