How to steam grass carp? It's delicious and simple

The simple and delicious way to steam grass carp is to pair it with ginger slices, scallions, and cooking wine to remove the fishy smell. Steam over high heat for 10-15 minutes.

Fresh live fish is the best choice for grass carp. When processing, it is necessary to thoroughly remove the internal organs and gills of the fish, and make diagonal cuts on both sides of the fish body to help enhance flavor. Before steaming, apply a small amount of salt evenly to the fish body, insert ginger slices and scallions into the fish belly, pour a spoonful of cooking wine and let it sit for 10 minutes to remove the fishy smell. After the water boils, steam over high heat for 10 minutes, then turn off the heat and simmer for 2 minutes. The fish meat is just tender and smooth without scattering. Steam the fish with soy sauce or soy sauce, heat it up and pour it over the fish. Sprinkle with shredded scallions and cilantro, and finally pour a spoonful of hot oil to enhance the aroma. If you prefer a light taste, you can directly use steamed fish juice mixed with a little white sugar and sesame oil as a dipping sauce.

The steaming time needs to be adjusted according to the size of the fish. Steaming grass carp weighing around 500 grams for 10 minutes is sufficient, and steaming grass carp weighing over 1 kilogram needs to be extended to 15 minutes. To avoid steaming the fish meat for too long and causing it to become dry, chopsticks can be inserted into the thickest part of the fish's back, which can be easily penetrated and cooked without any blood or water seeping out. If using frozen grass carp, it is necessary to thoroughly thaw it in advance and use kitchen paper to absorb the moisture, otherwise it is easy for water to come out during steaming and affect the taste.

Steamed grass carp is recommended to be paired with tofu or fungus to absorb the freshness. After steaming, consume it as soon as possible to avoid the fishy smell. In daily diet, alternate intake of deep-sea fish and freshwater fish 1-2 times a week, pay attention to fish bone treatment, and it is recommended for children and the elderly to choose the fish belly area. The leftover soup from steaming fish can be used to cook noodles or mixed with rice to avoid wasting nutrients. When purchasing grass carp, observe that the fish eyes are clear, the gills are bright red, and the freshness is higher when pressed and rebounded quickly.
